FAQs

How does the Pastelle Laser treatment work?

The Pastelle Laser treatment works by targeting melanin (pigmentation) in the skin. Using a specific wavelength of light the laser beam penetrates down into the dermis; the deepest layer of skin to break down pigmentation which is then removed by your body’s lymphatic system. The Pastelle Laser works on pigmentation, pore size, black heads, congestion, texture and overall tone of the skin. A laser glow facial is perfect for minimal downtime and overall rejuvenation of the skin to work on congestion, black heads, enlarged pores and textural skin.

How do I prepare my skin for laser pigmentation treatment?

and a tyrosinase inhibitor. Tyrosinase is the enzyme your body needs to form melanin (pigmentation). A tyrosinase inhibitor blocks this enzyme from forming in order to reduce skin pigmentation. A tyrosinase inhibitor is applied to the skin to breakdown and reduce existing pigmentation whilst also preventing further pigment from forming. It works by essentially turning off your melanocytes (pigmentation making cell) so that they can no longer produce more pigment on the skin. Applying a form of sunscreen daily is an essential requirement for all laser treatments. SPF should be applied to the skin on a daily basis in order to protect the skin from photoaging damage caused by UV exposure. A pigment blocker such as Vitamin C is also highly recommended to prevent further pigment from forming on the skin. It is also essential to avoid all forms of sun exposure completely for at least 2 weeks pre and post Laser treatment.

How many laser facial treatments will I need to remove my pigmentation?

Generally you will require 3-4 laser treatments to remove pigmentation. A full corrective Pastelle Laser treatment is recommended in order to work on pigmentation present on the surface of the skin but also to work on pigmentation being made in the deeper layers of the skin. Freckles, sun spots, and age spots are all treatable with our Pastelle laser device. Darker, more prominent pigmentation requires a spot treatment as a different wavelength of light is used to target solely the pigmentation visible on the surface of the skin. After finishing your course of laser treatments and achieving the desired outcome, 1-2 maintenance sessions per year are recommended in order to maintain your results.

What will my skin look like after my laser treatment?

Immediately following a laser treatment slight erythema and possible mild swelling may be present on the skin. For up to 2 weeks post treatment you may experience increased dryness and a breakout due to the exfoliating aspect of the treatment. Spot treatments: immediately following your laser treatment the pigmentation that has been spot treated will appear significantly darker. Over the course of a week this pigmentation will gradually come out onto the surface of the skin, forming a crust and then exfoliating away, ultimately appearing much lighter than prior to treatment.

How is pigment made?

Pigment making process: body makes pigment in response to trauma or UV light. Bodies way of protecting DNA of skin cells. Often a trigger, then chemical process where tyrosinase gets involved, to turn on melanocyte which is where pigment is made and parcelled up. Melanocyte will make pigment which is then packaged into melanosome which is then passed into keratinocyte via the dendrites to protect the DNA of the skin cells, which will present in the skin as darkening of pigment. Its important that the client is prepped with SPF (stops and slows initial trigger) tyrosinase inhibitors stopped the on switch of melanocyte (hydroquinone). Pigment blocker stops the trigger of melanocyte to keratinocyte (VIT C).
